Intersex babies are born with variations in sex characteristics that do not fit the typical definitions for male or female bodies. Doctors will often perform gender-reassignment surgery at birth - and often cover it up - a practice that still exists today. There was very little content on the Intersex community and I wanted to use BuzzFeed’s platform to bring awareness to it. A woman in Russia discovered she was intersex after watching this video, and went on to co-found Intersex Russia. It us now used by the UN Human Rights Office as a training module for the rights of LGBTQI persons.
